Safety for Hill Walkers
ALERTS are given a duration, this is selected by you when you first define the alert on the web. An alert can be up to 23 hours, 59 minutes in length (1,439 minutes). The time of the alarm is taken by adding the duration of the alert to the time you start the alert by sending the START TXT message. When the alert is started a TXT message is sent back to you confirming that AMBERresponse is monitoring you. This message confirms the alarm time and the time the message was sent. You can delay the alarm time during the alert by sending a DELAY alert name message with the number of minutes you wish to delay the alarm by. You can delay by up to 1,439 minutes. Each DELAY will cost you one token. This is the one time where TOKENs are spent in preference to GOLD TOKENS. When the alarm time is reached, the alarm will trigger and your emergency contacts will be contacted. It is important to understand that AMBERresponse works by looking at the alerts which are currently running and only reacting when one has exceeded its duration. It is possible that you can gain a very few minutes (up to 3) between the alarm time being reached and the trigger occuring. It would be wise, however, not to rely on this and ensure that you allow some flexibility in your duration when you define your alert.
